“I'm delighted to present excerpts of a YouTube of the recording session in Budapest of my new Violin Concerto with the virtuoso Dutch violinist, Tosca Opdam. This is a single movement work, 23-minutes long, and a bit like my 3rd String Quartet, which is also in one movement and blends tonal and atonal material. The concerto has been a daunting project because I've felt the weight of the great violin concertos on my shoulder but it's also been quite exciting to see it emerge from blank paper! It is a technically demanding piece for the violin but also full of rich colors and emotions and unexpected turns. Hopefully, a performance will happen next! More on this ambitious project was written up in an article for LA Opus. And I am delighted to have won the String Orchestra composition contest for the 75th Anniversary of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) with my new work, Nagyszentmiklos. The performance was with the United States Air Force String Orchestra, a superb ensemble. In 2023, all three of my String Quartets, recorded by the Lyris Quartet, will be released by Albany Records and all the quartets are available for sale at Subito Music. |
